CLICK HERE TO MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS

There's no greater satisfaction than helping a neighbor in need --- just ask any Red Cross volunteer! No matter what your age, ability, amount of time or interest, we have a volunteer opportunity for you!

DISASTER SERVICES

The American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter needs individuals to provide emergency relief to disaster victims. Disaster team members are on a rotating shift, responding to house fires, weather emergencies and other disasters.

Approximately 20 hours of training is required. You will be trained, free of charge, in First Aid, CPR and other disaster courses.  Click here to view a list of required courses and inquire about when they are being taught in your area.

Opportunities also exist to participate in disaster relief around the country as a national DSHR volunteer.  We have an acute need for bilingual volunteers both locally and nationally.

YOUTH

The Red Cross encourages families to volunteer as a group.  Youth are welcome and serve as a great asset to us, however there are a few requirements to being a disaster volunteer.

To become a disaster volunteer for the American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter without supervision, volunteers must be at least 14 years of age with approval from the family, and will be limited to office work duties.

- Must be at least 16 years of age to join the local Disaster Action Team with a parent's approval.

- Must be 10 years of age with parent or guardian supervision to become local family disaster volunteer.

- For a national assignment, volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

PREPAREDNESS AND HEALTH & SAFETY

The chapter offers many diverse opportunities for volunteers interested in providing emergency life saving information to the community. The various functions include first aid stations and health fairs. Also available are opportunities in becoming a Health and Safety Instructor to teach classes such as CPR, First Aid, Babysitter’s Training, Water Safety, and Lifeguard Instruction. Training is available and consists of approximately 20-30 hours of instruction. Schedules vary depending on level of teaching. Click here for more information.

OFFICE SUPPORT

The chapter collaborates with agencies such as RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), Opportunities Unlimited, VCRI (Volunteer Center of Rhode Island) and individuals throughout the state to provide them with meaningful volunteer opportunities. Office support includes data entry, filing, typing, correlating handouts and mailings and answering telephones. Hours are very flexible, but must be within office hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

FUNDRAISING

Help raise funds for the Red Cross. Ideas such as dress-down days, donation canister distribution, site displays, volunteer fairs and others are fun and easy to do. No training required.

EVENT VOLUNTEER
Interested in helping out with the "behind the scenes" details of a Red Cross event? Help is needed in the weeks and months leading up to an event -- assisting with mailings, securing and transporting raffle items, promoting the event around town and with your group of friends and family coworkers, and so much more.
