Friday, December 12, 2003 RI Red Cross assisting Central Falls residents
displaced by fire
American Red Cross of Rhode Island volunteers responded to a house fire late Thursday afternoon at
a triple-decker home at 213-215 Illinois Street in Central Falls. Three families were displaced from their home. A total of 14 people were affected—7 adults
and 7 children. The RI Red Cross is assisting all involved with food, clothing and shelter.
This is the third incident RI Red Cross volunteers have responded to since Monday.
A total of 30 individuals – 12 of whom are children -- were displaced by fire or other emergencies just in the past five days.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
