Monday, November 3, 2003 RI Red Cross providing assistance to residents
displaced by overnight fire
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island is providing assistance to three families burned out of their home
early Monday morning at 156 Randall Street in Pawtucket. The seven people involved required food, clothing and shelter assistance from the RI Red
Cross. Volunteers also provided the residents with comfort kits for the night. These kits contain toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other daily necessities.
On Saturday afternoon, RI Red Cross volunteers responded to a fire at Kilmartin
Plaza in Providence. They remained on scene for five hours, working alongside The Providence Housing Authority, to ensure all residents were safe and taken care of.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
