Friday, October 25, 2002 Red Cross Responds to Second Fire Today --
Providence Blaze Forces Parents, Infant Out of West End Home
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island has been called to the scene of a fire at 36 Carter Street in Providence this afternoon.
One family --- two adults and an infant --- were evacuated from the home. Red
Cross volunteers are providing hotel accommodations and meals for the family.
This is the second fire the Red Cross has responded to today ---- this morning our
volunteers were assisting a family in Woonsocket.
Since Monday, the American Red Cross of Rhode Island has assisted eight
families --- a total of 18 adults and 11 children --- with emergency services, free of charge.
The Red Cross typically spends $1,000 per family of four it assists. All Red Cross
assistance is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
