Tuesday, October 21, 2003 RI Red Cross providing assistance to residents of
Farragut Ave fire
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island was called to 56-58 Farragut Avenue in Providence Monday
afternoon for a two-family house fire. Fourteen people were displaced by the fire. The RI Red Cross provided food and shelter assistance to 10
people—three adults and 7 children. The remaining four residents stayed with family. No injuries were reported.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
