Thursday, October 10, 2002 Twelve Displaced in Cranston Street Fire -- Red
Cross Providing Meals and Lodging American Red Cross of Rhode Island disaster
volunteers were called to the scene of a three-story fire at 834 Cranston Street in Cranston last evening. Twelve people --- eight adults and four children --- were displaced as a result of the blaze.
Red Cross volunteers provided the victims -- all members of the same extended
family -- with meals and hotel accommodations. They are expected to meet with Red Cross caseworkers to today to determine their long-term needs.
This is the 112th fire the Rhode Island Red Cross has responded to this year.
The Red Cross typically spends $1,000 per family of four it assists. All Red Cross emergency services are free and provided through monetary donations from Rhode Island citizens.
