Monday, September 8, 2003 RI Red Cross volunteers kept busy with several
weekend fires
American Red Cross of Rhode Island volunteers were busy this weekend, responding to three fires. The
first was at 32 Coyle Street in Pawtucket, where two families were affected. Five adults and one child received food, clothing and shelter from the RI
Red Cross. At 68 Sumner Street in Central Falls, 2 families were affected, but only one required RI Red Cross assistance.
The fire at 114 Ford Street in Providence affected four families—eight adults and
seven children. RI Red Cross provided food, shelter and clothing assistance to three of the families.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
