Tuesday, September 2, 2003 RI Red Cross responds to two fires
Saturday night
Rhode Island Red Cross volunteers were busy late Saturday evening, responding to two fires just hours
apart. The first was at 89 Arden Street in Providence. Volunteers responded at 10:30 pm to a two-family home. Eight people were affected—6
adults and 2 infants. They opted to stay with friends and family and the RI Red Cross provided food from Stop & Shop.
As they left the scene at Arden Street, RI Red Cross volunteers were called to a
single family house fire at 463B Turtellotte Hill Road in Chepachet. Three adults required shelter assistance from the RI Red Cross
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
