Friday, August 13, 2004 RI Red Cross assisting Warwick family
displaced by fire
RI Red Cross volunteers are assisting 1 family – 1 adult and 3 children - displaced by a fire early
yesterday evening at 52 Troy Street in Warwick. The family is receiving food, clothing and shelter assistance from the RI Red Cross.
In addition, last evening the RI Red Cross activated its hurricane response plan and
has shelter teams in coastal communities on standby in the event of flooding from Tropical Storm Bonnie. Over 280 RI Red Cross volunteers, who train for hours to
operate shelters in emergency situations, are on standby and may be activated if needed. The Red Cross urges RI residents to prepare now by having an evacuation
plan, packing a bag in case of evacuation, and having a disaster supplies kit handy. Information on what to include may be found at www.riredcross.org.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
Visit www.riredcross.org for more information and to find out how you can help.
