Wednesday, August 7, 2002 Red Cross Teams Up With Blue Cross to Provide
Summer Safety Tips to Seniors in West Warwick Tonight
As part of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island's Summer Lecture Series, the American Red Cross of
Rhode Island is providing a "Summer Safety Tips for Seniors" lecture this evening, Wednesday, at the West Warwick Senior Center, 20 Factory Street, from 6-6:30pm.
"Recognizing recent reports about West Nile Virus, we hope this question and
answer session will be helpful and provide seniors with peace of mind," Sarah Bilofsky, Director of Communications, American Red Cross of Rhode Island said.
Bilofsky said a Red Cross disaster volunteer will be leading the interactive
discussion, which will also include tips on heat exhaustion, water safety and basic fire prevention.
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island provided a similar lecture recently in South
Kingstown. The sessions are free of charge and Red Cross volunteers offer their time to give the presentations.
The mission of the American Red Cross is to "prevent, prepare for and respond to
emergencies." In Rhode Island, the Red Cross provides first aid stations for public events, teaches lifesaving classes and responds to hundreds of fires every year. All
Red Cross services are funded by donations from the public.
