Friday, August 1, 2003 American Red Cross of Rhode Island responds to
Providence fire
Rhode Island Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene of a triple-decker fire Thursday afternoon at
144 Parade Street in Providence. Fifteen people -- 9 adults and 6 children – received shelter and food assistance from the RI Red Cross.
Yesterday's fire wraps up an active month for the RI Red Cross. In July, they
responded to 14 residential fires and assisted 114 people with food, shelter and clothing. Summer months are typically quiet, but this season is proving to be an exception.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
