Wednesday, July 9, 2003 American Red Cross responds to two fires
Tuesday evening
Rhode Island Red Cross volunteers were busy Tuesday evening with two separate fires in
Pawtucket and Providence. Volunteers arrived on scene at a fire-damaged single family residence at 23 McCuster Court in Pawtucket at 8:30 pm Tuesday
evening. Two adults and 3 children are receiving lodging and meals from The Red Cross.
Several hours later, at 3:00 am, RI Red Cross volunteers responded to a fire at 86
Grove Street in Providence, where 2 families had been burned out of their home. A total of 15 people – 10 adults and 5 children – were affected. The Red Cross is
providing food, clothing and shelter to the families.
The Red Cross typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
