Wednesday, March 31, 2004 RI Red Cross assisting 5 Pawtucket residents
displaced by overnight fire
RI Red Cross volunteers responded to a fire at 25 Hazel Street in Pawtucket early this morning. A
total of 5 people – 2 adults and 3 children –required Red Cross emergency food, clothing and shelter assistance.
Also today, on the last day of Red Cross Month, 26 schools across Rhode Island are
holding a one day fundraiser to show their support for the RI Red Cross and the programs and services they provide. From elementary schools through colleges,
local students are standing up for the Red Cross and showing their support. Funds raised will directly assist families, like those who were assisted last evening, with
emergency food, clothing and shelter assistance when they have lost everything to a house fire.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
