Wednesday, March 27, 2002 PRESS ALERT
Red Cross to Receive 500 "Snoopy" Dolls From MetLife Auto & Home to be Distributed to Local Children Who are Victims of Fire
WHO: MetLife Auto & Home & American Red
Cross of Rhode Island
WHAT: MetLife Auto & Home to donate 500 "Snoopy" dolls to Rhode Island
Red Cross, to be distributed to local children who are victims of house fires.
WHEN: Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 9am
WHERE: MetLife Auto & Home, Jesse Dawley Road (middle MetLife entrance,
off Quaker Lane), Warwick, Rhode Island
WHY: The American Red Cross of Rhode Island has, in previous years,
received a donation of stuffed animals through a national agreement with major retailers. This year, that program was not continued, and the Rhode
Island Red Cross found itself without stuffed animals to distribute to young children who lose their toys in a house fire.
This year, the American Red Cross has responded to 37 fires across the state. In
2001, the American Red Cross of Rhode Island assisted 379 Rhode Island families, who were victims of fires, spending over $200,000.00 in emergency services. All
Red Cross assistance is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
