Thursday, February 11, 2004 RI Red Cross to honor volunteers -- Area
companies sponsoring event
On Saturday, March 20, 2004, the American Red Cross of Rhode Island will honor its volunteers by
hosting a volunteer recognition event at the Feinstein IMAX Theater in Providence Place Mall. This event, which runs from 9:30 – 11:30 am, will
feature the debut of the NBC 10 produced 30-minute infomercial about the American Red Cross of Rhode Island. This film features volunteers sharing their
stories and experiences about their work with the Red Cross. Nick Logothets, Interim CEO and Team Leader of Disaster Services, will address the group and give out special recognition awards.
The event is free of charge and guests are welcome. Refreshments will be served
and there will be special raffle prizes. Volunteers wishing to attend should RSVP by Wednesday, March 17th by calling 831-7700 or emailing [email protected].
Special thanks to our sponsors: The Feinstein IMAX Theater for donating use of
their theater, Dunkin Donuts for providing coffee, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for providing breakfast. Many thanks also to NBC 10 and Case Media Productions for
their production of the first-ever RI Red Cross infomercial.
March is Red Cross Month and it is so important to recognize and thank the many
volunteers who do so much to support the good works of the RI Red Cross.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the American Red Cross and they are on the front
lines providing programs and services to the community. There are 67 Disaster Team Members throughout RI and these are the individuals who respond to fires
and other disasters, often in the middle of the night, to help those in crisis. In addition, there are over 1,000 Red Cross trained volunteers in each of RI's 39 cities
and towns who are prepared to assist in the face of a disaster. There are also many volunteers who work in the office and teach Health & Safety courses
throughout the community. The time and energy our volunteers share is vital to the success of the RI Red Cross.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
