Great Chefs of RI event to kick off Red Cross Month

On Monday, March 7, 2005, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, the American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter will kick off Red Cross Month by hosting the 2nd Annual "Great Chefs of Rhode Island" at the Roger Williams Park Casino. Sponsored by Sovereign Bank, with NBC 10 and FedEx Kinko's as supporting sponsors, this event will feature signature creations from over 20 notable RI chefs and specialty shops. Guests will also be able to take part in beer and wine sampling, as well as learn about wine pairing. Proceeds from this event will benefit the American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter.

Gene Valicenti of NBC 10 will host the event and will take part in several cooking demonstrations performed by Chef Frank Terranova of Johnson & Wales University and "Cooking with Class" on NBC 10. Nick, Ron and Peter Cardi of Cardi's Furniture will be special guest hosts for the evening.

Participating chefs and specialty shops are: Pane E Vino, Pot Au Feu, Bella Restaurant & Banquet, Castle Hill Inn & Resort, Chefs Association of RI (CARI), Camille's, LaMoia Tapas Bar, Renaissance, Nick's on Broadway, Costantino's Ristorante Caffé, Ocean State Chocolates & Confections, Zooma Bar Ristorante, Federal Reserve, Wright's Dairy Farm, Majik Coffee Company, Hemenway's, The Cheesecake Factory and Cabot Creamery. Restaurant gift certificates, wine baskets, and other items will be offered as part of the raffle. High-end items such as private chef's dinners, a $500 Cardi's gift certificate and cases of wine will be up for auction during the event.

Campus Fine Wines, Spirits & Beers, Newport Vineyards, Sakonnet Vineyards and Newport Storm will offer beer and wine sampling as well as lessons in wine pairing with your favorite Cabot Cheeses and truffles from Ocean State Chocolates & Confections.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.riredcross.org or by calling (401) 831-7700. Tickets are limited so call today! Deadline to purchase tickets is March 1^st. Proceeds benefit American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter.

The Rhode Island Chapter typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free, thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
