RI Red Cross assisting families displaced by Pawtucket fire

Last evening, RI Red Cross volunteers responded to a triple decker house fire at 39 Lake Street in Pawtucket. Three families were displaced from their home and opted to stay with family and friends. In all, eight people– 5 adults and 3 children – required emergency food and clothing assistance from the RI Red Cross.

This follows the fire Friday evening in Pawtucket, where RI Red Cross volunteers were assisting residents of the St. Germain Manor fire. In the end, RI Red Cross volunteers did not need to provide services, as all displaced residents found shelter with family. Volunteers remained on scene until every resident was safely returned to their apartment or alternate living arrangements.

The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free, thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
