Monday, February 2, 2004 RI Red Cross assisting three Providence families
displaced by afternoon fire
For the second time on Monday, RI Red Cross volunteers responded to a house fire in Providence.
The fire occurred late Monday morning at a triple-decker home located at 122-124 Farmington Avenue in Providence. Three families were displaced
– a total of 6 adults and 4 children. They received emergency food, clothing and shelter assistance from the RI Red Cross.
Earlier this morning, at 8:00 am, volunteers responded to 869 Manton Avenue in
Providence, where two families were displaced due to a house fire. Twelve people – 4 adults and 8 children—received food, clothing and shelter assistance from Red Cross volunteers.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
