RI Red Cross assisting families displaced by weekend fires

American Red Cross of Rhode Island volunteers were busy this weekend, responding to three fires in as many days.

On Saturday evening, a family of 4 was forced out of their home at 35 Fales Street in Cranston due to high carbon monoxide levels. They were in need of emergency shelter for the weekend, which the Red Cross provided.

Late Sunday evening, volunteers were called to the scene of a house fire at 1 Crestview Drive in Scituate. Two adults and 2 children received emergency food, shelter and clothing assistance from the RI Red Cross.

This morning, at 8:00 am, volunteers responded to 869 Manton Avenue in Providence, where two families were displaced due to a house fire. Twelve people – 4 adults and 8 children—received food, clothing and shelter assistance from Red Cross volunteers.

The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free, thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
