Friday, January 30, 2004 RI Red Cross assisting families displaced by two
fires
American Red Cross of Rhode Island volunteers responded to two fires on Friday. The first occurred
Friday morning at Weathersfield Commons, 653 Orleans Court in Warwick. One adult was in need of Red Cross emergency food and clothing assistance.
The second fire occurred Friday afternoon at a two-family home at 31-33 Verndale
Avenue in Providence. Two families were displaced from their home. The RI Red Cross is assisting 8 people—7 adults and 1 child – with emergency food, clothing and shelter assistance.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it
assists. All Red Cross assistance is free, thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private
donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
