Tuesday, January 15, 2002 Red Cross Assisting Victims Of Last Night's
Hawkins St. Fire in Providence -- Six Adults and Three Children Meeting with Caseworkers Today
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island will be meeting with victims of a fire last evening at 306 Hawkins Street, in Providence.
Last night, Red Cross volunteers responded to the fire, providing victims with emergency shelter and meals.
Six adults and three children will sit down with caseworkers today at Red Cross
headquarters to assess long-term needs and assist with additional services.
This is the seventh fire the American Red Cross has responded to in 2002. This is
typically the busiest time of year for Red Cross disaster services, with the largest number of fires occurring during the winter months.
The Red Cross typically spends $1,000 per family of four it assists. All Red Cross
assistance is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
