Keeping Rhode Island Safe This Summer...
from Barbara G. DeCesare , Executive Director

Name three things that pop into your head when you think about summer in Rhode Island. Beaches, boats and beautiful sunsets are just a few things we enjoy in the Ocean State during the warm weather.

For the Red Cross, summer means something different. For over 100 years, we have been teaching Rhode Island children to swim. We are preparing for a rough hurricane season, which kicked off June 1st and lasts through November. And we continue to respond to house fires, because emergencies don’t stop when the weather gets nice.

For the Red Cross, summer isn’t a time for vacation. We know that an emergency can strike at any moment and our dedicated team of volunteers and staff stand ready to respond.

As you read this issue of CrossRhodes, we hope you’ll come away with some practical safety tips. We also hope you’ll appreciate that while you are enjoying summer’s special offerings, the Red Cross is working hard to keep Rhode Islanders safe.
